Economy: Free market principles, foreign investment, fertile agriculture land and recent industrialization have led to strong exports – textiles, shrimp, sugar, rubber, jewelry and electronics. Thailand is also the worlds largest exporter of rice. Tourism is a major aspect of the economy; there is also an endemic economy of vice, in particular the sex trade and drug trafficking.

Religion: Freedom of religion is guaranteed in the constitution, which was modified in 1998 to loosen ties between the state and Buddhism and increase harmony among religious communities. All new religious groups must omen der one of the government-recognized umbrella networks in order to be legally recognized.
